Participants of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy Academy assessed the pros and cons of Artificial Intelligence
Participants of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Preventive Diplomacy Academy took part in an online session on "Innovations and Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Peace."
The session was conducted by Martin Waehlisch, Head of the Innovation Cell of the Policy and Mediation Division of the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. He presented the UN's "Quintet of Change" policy, focused on more robust capabilities for data and analytics, innovation and digital transformation, strategic foresight, behavioral science and performance, and result orientation.
Waehlisch discussed the latest innovations and applications of Artificial Intelligence and innovations in the work of the UN, Secretariat, Field Missions and agencies. He shared concrete examples of the application of AI and technological innovations in UN operations on different continents.
During a practical exercise, the students evaluated the pros and cons of AI in analyzing political speeches. This activity demonstrated the need for future regulation and development of the existing Artificial Intelligence tools.
