The annual working plan for cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNFPA is signed

The ceremony of signing the 2019 working plan drafted in the framework of the 2016-2020 Plan of Activities of the Country Programme on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) took place in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

The heads and representatives of the national parliament, the UNFPA, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan attended the ceremony. The documents were signed by the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and UNFPA Country Director for Turkmenistan Ms. Giulia Vallese.

As was emphasized, the implementation of the events scheduled for the current year will contribute to enhancing the fruitful cooperation of Turkmenistan with the UNFPA, which has become effective and has reached a qualitatively new level. The programme of cooperation is implemented in line with the foreign-policy strategy of Turkmenistan in compliance with the priorities of the state development declared by the President of Turkmenistan.

Acceded to a number of key UN conventions, Turkmenistan steadily follows the undertaken commitments, being an active participant in the process of consolidating universal efforts to ensure peace, stability and security in the world and directing its peacekeeping and creative potential to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for the period till 2030.

Our country actively cooperates with the specialized UN structures in the implementation of programmes and action plans to ensure human rights and freedoms adopted on the basis of the UN international legal documents, implements democratic reforms aimed at protecting the interests of the citizens of the country. The National Plan of Action for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2016-2020 and the National Plan of Action for Gender Equality for 2015-2020, approved by the President of Turkmenistan, are successfully implemented in our country.

The current ceremony reaffirmed the constructiveness of our country's partnership with the UN agencies, in active cooperation with which dozens of programms and projects have been successfully implemented.

The developed Work plan for the project “Strengthening national mechanisms for gender equality and the empowerment of women” is a part of the five-year Country Programme. It is based on the previously achieved success of cooperation and determines the main activities for 2019.

A number of documents regulating the cooperation of departments with the UN agencies, accredited in Turkmenistan, were signed in the Turkmen capital. Among them are:

- 2019 Work plan of the project “Rendering assistance in the implementation of the National Plan of Action of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights in 2016-2020” between the Institute of State, Law and Democracy and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Office in Turkmenistan;

- 2019 Joint Work plan of the project “Support to the economic climate resilient livelihoods in agricultural communities in arid regions of Turkmenistan” between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Office in Turkmenistan;

- 2019 Joint Work plan of the project “Strengthening the system and mechanisms for gender equality” between the Institute of State, Law and Democracy and the UNFPA office in Turkmenistan;

-“Cooperation Programme for 2016-2020” and “Biennial Work Plan for 2019-2020. - Partnership in the interests of children's rights” between the State Committee on Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, the Central Council of the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan and the UNICEF office in our country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing for the representatives of foreign and domestic media, the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, during which the issues on enhancing the constructive interaction of our country with specialized UN offices in the framework of the signed Cooperation Work Plans for 2019 were highlighted.
