Turkmenistan improves national statistics system

The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan has taken another important step in improving the statistical reporting system in accordance with the updated version of the System of National Accounts (SNA).

This became possible due to the agency's cooperation with international partners, including the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan. Thus, within the framework of cooperation with the UNDP, new methodologies have been developed and implemented, covering government classifiers and key sectors such as finance, banking and insurance, science and tourism. Approaches to calculating the consumption of fixed assets have also been introduced, and the capacity of the staff of the statistical system has been significantly strengthened.

The Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Turkmenistan, Narine Saakyan, noted that the UNDP welcomes the approval by the Government of Turkmenistan of the proposal to introduce statistical reporting based on the updated version of the system of national accounts and expresses its readiness to continue productive cooperation on the creation of a modern and integrated statistical system in the country.
