The state of turkmen-tajik relations was discussed at the MFA of Turkmenistan

On January 9, 2024, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmed Kurbanov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan Vafo Niyatbekzoda.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The productive character of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Tajikistan on May 10-11, 2023 was stated, during which the commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation was confirmed.

Along with this, the parties paid attention to the current state of trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the need to increase trade turnover between the countries was noted. At the same time, the progress in implementing the decisions of the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical cooperation, held in November 2023 in Dushanbe, was reviewed.

Diplomats noted the need to continue close ties in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In this context, the necessity to continue the practice of holding the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in Ashgabat and Dushanbe was noted.

An exchange of views also took place on the prospects for further cooperation between the parliaments and the exchange of visits by parliamentarians of the two countries.
