Turkmen sambo wrestlers are the prize winners of the World Cup in Moscow

Turkmen sambo wrestlers won three silver and nine bronze medals at the Harlampiyev Memorial World Cup, which started in Luzhniki Sport Complex in Moscow on March 22.

The success of our compatriots is very pleasant on the threshold of the Sambo World Championship, which is to be held in Ashgabat in 2020. This decision was taken at the session of the Executive Committee of International Sambo Federation (FIAS) on the day before.

Winner of V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Charymyrat Annagurbanov competing in the weight category up to 100 kg won the silver in combat sambo.

Batyr Durdieyv (up to 52 kg), Yusup Tanryberdiyev (up to 57 kg), Ruslan Yusupov (up to 62 kg), rustem Phejoyev (up to 74 kg), Javlanbek Madaminov (up to 90 kg) and Babajan Ivadullayev (100+ kg) won bronze medals in the same discipline.

In classical sambo, our wrestlers won five medals – Yusup Ismailov (up to 62 kg) and Ysup Atamyradov (up to 68 kg) won silver medals, Ruslan Esgerov (up to 100 kg), Zyba Orunova (up to 60 kg) and Gulnar Hayitbayeva (up to 64 kg) won the bronze.

The tournament dedicated to the founder of the sambo (defence without weapon), is held annually since 1980. This year, the tournament has brought together more than 250 wrestlers from 33 countries.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Turkmenistan regularly sends Turkmen sportsmen to big international and regional competitions including to the Harlampiyev Memorial Cup. Last year, our athletes won 3 silver and 7 bronze medals at this prestigious competition.

Nevertheless, the tournament is still going on so current result is yet to be improved.
